Loss of presidential debate is slap in the face to N.O.

What’s up with New Orleans getting passed over for the presidential debates next year?

Who says we are “not ready” for an event of that size?

We hold Mardi Gras, for crying out loud. What about the Sugar Bowl, Jazz Fest and Essence Fest?

We surely could handle 3,000 journalists. What are they talking about?

We’re more than ready. I think the ones who aren’t “ready” are the Republicans who would have to come down here, get a guided tour of the devastated parts of the city, and explain to their supporters why this city’s recovery isn’t on a faster track. We are far better suited than Oxford, MS, to host 3,000 journalists and the presidential candidates, their staff, and many guests and dignitaries. Where does Oxford’s city leaders think they’re going lodge all those people? Can the University of Mississippi’s residence halls handle these people, after the 650 hotel rooms are filled? How many of Oxford’s residents are ready for this event, and how many of them have homes big enough to take in all these people?
