Should hurricane anniversaries be holidays?

State Rep. Juan LaFonta, a Democrat from New Orleans, has filled bills with the Legislature to give state workers days off for the anniversaries of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

LaFonta’s three bills will be considered during the spring session of the Legislature that begins March 31.

I’ve heard people say they don’t like this idea. There’s too much rebuilding to do, and people need to get to work, they say. Others say that we need to move on and show the nation we are putting the hurricanes behind us.

What do you think? Do you support LaFonta’s idea?

A day off for state workers to commemorate the day the state government completely failed its people. Yeah, sounds about right.

Ditto. You can cross out state and substitute parish – and if the shoe fits in some cases….;but my answer is still, “NO, I don’t believe the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina should be a state holiday. That is JUST downright self indulgent. I expected this type of behavior for some reason or another.
