Move over billboards and yard signs. TV-reporter-turned-political-candidate Helena Moreno is using the midriff-exposed bodies of the New Orleans VooDoo Dolls to get voters excited about her campaign for Louisiana’s 2nd District in Congress.

CityBusiness reporter Emilie Bahr captured the Moreno girls in this photo taken Wednesday in Lafayette Square during Wednesday at the Square.

Is this female empowerment? As someone who worked on the Clinton campaigns, I think she would know better. My question is why aren’t any qualified white people running. I am disturbed by the fact that Helena Moreno (who is now positioning herself as white in the media even though she is Mexican American) is running as the lone “white woman”. I am an African American. I thought she was good at her job as tv reporter. However, the idea that someone would go from reporting the news to representing our district in Congress is a little ridiculous. At least respect our intelligence enough to start in a lower office or some sort community leader position. She is already playing the race card positioning herself as the lone white person and only woman and she has the political heavyweights (Ed Renwick) and major money players behind her (the benson family). Why aren’t there any qualified white people running. You can’t blame blacks for voting black when only blacks run and it would be a major mistake to vote in someone who has absolutely no expreience when our region is still in dire straits. Am I the only one who sees this point?

Right on sista! She’s not white and where are the white people. White People Wake Up!

She is a reporter…we need someone who has been dealing with the city’s problems in Congress, not reporting on them!…or God forbid making bare midriff news…we’ve had enough with dollars in the freezer!

    Larry Zingler-
“Scooze me “- are you addressing me?
What makes you think I am an “uppity biggotty person who got a real problem.”, could this be a difference in opinion on candidates?
As stated someone who has dealt with the problems in depth is preferred to someone who has only reported on them.

    Kathy,
I think Larry was talking to melissa.

    Melissa,
It disturbs me that you are disturbed by the lack of “white people” in the race. This statement insinuates that you feel a white person would do a better job. William Jefferson is an individual. George Bush is an individual. You are no different from white people who say Barack Obama can’t be a good president because he is black. Think about it.

I think Helena would be a great choice. I’m tired of voting in the same old politicians that have experience, and are “Qualified” for the job. If you haven’t noticed our government is full of corruption and they were all voted in as “Qualified” people.

I have to agree with David, our “experienced” politicians are experienced in corruption. Time for new candidates to step up. Jefferson is already indicted and has been stripped of all his positions in Congress what good is he for our area? Make your concerns known to Morena and put her in office.
