I guess firms like Shaw, Wink and Boh Brothers are
not considered competent for construction when it comes to the hospital. Jacobs who moved in lA in the nASA complex brings not skills or capital that are not readily available in the state. so once again the state government chooses to send jobs and money outside the state to do work in the state. Where is help the economy grow Jindal now.

P.S. But why do we have "brake tags" anyway? After living in four others states that do not have these things, I have to wonder....

I don't know for sure, but my bet is that the city could do a lot to bring in more businesses (other than tourist-based, that is) that would be healthy for our city. Extending parking meter hours isn't going to hurt anyone very much.

Yes, the city should be much farther along than it is. But it's been behind other cities for decades.

Why not try enforcing the rules and regs for a chance? It would probably bring in some funds.

I agree with some of Mickey's remarks. In NO and state-wide we educate our kids for menial or service jobs. Lately we've been hearing that we have too many universities and colleges & too few tech-community colleges. Say what!? The fact is that we are not demanding our "leaders" to create jobs for university-educated grads.

I dislike Nagin, but he's right that enforcing some of the long-ignored reules & regs may be necessary. Too many people, for instance, continually violate city parking regs.

Imagine how much $ the city could raise if littering, speeding, and parking fines were levied!

agree completely with mickey, this city should be far ahead of where it is right now, even after katrina, we are in dire new of something else in this city, i for one am hoping this VA hospital starts being built so we can bring in well educated and upper end tax paying citizens, as well as the revival of our port

Typical - crawlng back from Katrina, losing population, no economy but parties, festivals and Saints (happily), so while we educate our people to pour drinks and make beds, what is the Mayor's solution to lack of funds (instead of cleaning up corruption, waste and ineptitude - more taxes on the remaining population, reduce services, and soak the tourists even more - until the one egg laying goose we have is no more. Sheer stupidity - again.

Don't restaurant menus have a warning on the risks of consuming raw oysters? Is that not enough?

Also, where are people consuming these oysters? My father in Tennessee told me about people there getting sick from oysters at a local restaurant up there. When I lived in Tennesse, I never ate oysters (raw or otherwise). I don't know if this rare bacteria (less common than Big Foot sightings) is tied to the freshness of the product, but on the Gulf, we are getting a fresher product that is handled by people who know what they are doing. Alexandria is about as far north as I'll eat raw Gulf oysters.

The last time the FDA proposed this, one of the New Orleans oyster retailers was quoted as saying, "You're in more danger walking down Rampart Street at night than by eating raw oysters."
